Linux gets open-source ShadowPlay alternative for all major GPUs

GPU Screen Recorder 6.0 has officially launched on Linux, bringing a direct alternative to NVIDIA ShadowPlay that supports all major GPUs including AMD, Intel, and NVIDIA.

The open-source tool offers hardware-accelerated recording, streaming, and instant replay functionality across both X11 and Wayland desktop environments. Its standout feature is the Instant Replay mode, which continuously buffers the most recent gameplay footage to disk, allowing users to save highlights on demand without manual triggering.

Supported video codecs include H.264, HEVC, AV1, VP8, and VP9, though actual hardware encoding capabilities depend on the specific GPU model and driver version installed. The software is designed to offload most processing tasks to the graphics card, keeping CPU usage low during capture.

This release addresses a long-standing gap in Linux gaming tools, providing a unified solution for content creators who do not rely solely on NVIDIA hardware or proprietary drivers.
