Keychron launches slim Nape Pro trackball mouse for keyboard combos
Keychron has expanded its peripheral lineup with the Nape Pro, a compact trackball mouse co-developed with Gizmode Japan. Designed to complement their popular keyboards, this device features a slim profile and versatile connectivity options for both wired and wireless use.
The Nape Pro addresses the common issue of wrist strain by utilizing a trackball mechanism instead of a traditional scroll wheel. Its body is engineered to be extremely thin at just 19mm, allowing it to sit flush against a desk or keyboard without obstructing typing space. The device measures 34.7mm in width and 135.2mm in length, with a total height of 36mm including the ball.
Connectivity is handled through a versatile trio of interfaces: Bluetooth for wireless pairing, a 2.4GHz wireless dongle for low-latency gaming or work, and a USB Type-C port that supports charging while in use. This flexibility ensures the mouse can be dropped into any setup, from a laptop dock to a desktop tower.
A standout feature is the OctaShift technology, which allows the trackball to function in eight different directions. Users can orient the device horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, making it ideal for users who prefer placing their mouse sideways or at an angle to save desk space. The internal switch mechanism utilizes Huano silent microswitches, ensuring a quiet click that won't disturb others during late-night sessions.
Customization is built into the firmware rather than requiring constant software intervention. Every button and the trackball itself can be reprogrammed for clicks, scrolling, shortcuts, or macros. Once configured, these settings are saved directly to the device's memory, meaning users can switch between different computers without losing their personalized layout.
The sensor driving the cursor is the Pixart PAW3222, a reliable component known for accuracy in compact form factors. The trackball itself has a diameter of 25mm, providing a standard grip size that accommodates various hand types. Available in both black and white colorways, the Nape Pro is priced at 12,650 JPY (approx. $85 USD) and is currently available through retailers like TSUKUMO eX.
This release marks another step for Keychron in diversifying beyond keyboards into ergonomic peripherals that prioritize desk space efficiency and user comfort.
