Intel Brings Back Four-Digit Naming: Intel Core Ultra 9 4950K Announced
The return of four-digit model numbers was first reported in early August 2026 via leaks and screenshots from CPU-Z. The new processor, named Intel Core Ultra 9 4950K, will belong to the upcoming Intel Core Ultra Series 4 Processors.
According to leaked specifications, the Core Ultra 9 4950K will feature:
- 28 Cores: 8 Performance cores (P-cores), 16 Efficient cores (E-cores), and 4 LPE cores.
- L3 Cache: 36 MB (without the large bLLC variant).
- Compatibility: Designed for Z990 chipset motherboards.
- TDP: 125 W.
It is important to note that the Intel Nova Lake architecture has not yet been officially announced. Intel plans to unveil it at CES 2027 in Las Vegas and Computex 2027 in Taiwan, with products hitting the market between January and September 2027.
Beyond the 4950K, other models in the Series 4000 lineup are expected to emerge, including dual-die configurations that could reach up to 52 cores. However, such variants will likely command a higher price and require compatible motherboards.
Intel is also maintaining its current positioning strategy: processors in the Series 4000 will be marketed under Intel Core Ultra Series 4 Processors, not just as part of the generic Core Ultra line. This means that even with the return of four-digit model numbers, Intel continues to use its new classification system.
Exact pricing and release dates for the Intel Core Ultra 9 4950K have not been officially confirmed yet. The processor is expected to become available in early 2027, but the exact date depends on testing results and manufacturing readiness.
