HP launches 17.3-inch OmniBook 3 with Intel Wildcat Lake

The OmniBook 3 17 is available with several options from the Intel Wildcat Lake family. Users can choose between the Core 5 315, Core 5 320, or the higher-tier Core 7 350. Notably, all three processor options in this series feature six CPU cores, providing a consistent multi-core foundation across the lineup.

Display and visual options

The display selection for the OmniBook 3 17 is somewhat limited in terms of panel technology. HP offers two main resolutions:

• A 1600×900 TN panel with 250 nits of brightness.
• A 1920×1080 IPS panel with 300 nits of brightness.

Both panel types are available in touchscreen versions. However, it is worth noting that the FHD IPS option covers only 62.5% of the sRGB color gamut according to HP, which may limit its utility for color-sensitive tasks.

Memory, storage, and connectivity

Regarding internal components, the laptop supports up to 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory, though it is important to note that HP utilizes a single memory module for these configurations, ranging from 8 GB to 32 GB. Storage options include 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB SSDs.

For power and wireless connectivity, the device offers two battery capacities: 41 Wh and 68 Wh. On the wireless side, the OmniBook 3 17 supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0.

Market positioning and competition

The HP OmniBook 3 17 entered the market with a starting price of $999, configured with a Core 5 315, 8 GB of RAM, and a 256 GB SSD. HP has already begun offering discounts on various custom configurations in its official store.

HP is not the only vendor targeting the 17-inch Wildcat Lake segment. Lenovo has released the IdeaPad Slim 3 17IWC11, which features a 1080p IPS display and up to 32 GB of DDR5-5600. Additionally, ASUS has updated its Vivobook 17 X1704 with several Wildcat Lake options, including the Core 3 304, Core 5 315, Core 5 320, and Core 7 350, all paired with a 1920×1080 60 Hz panel.
