How to Play Better Counter Strike 2

Warm-up

Every CS2 session should begin with a warm-up using bots, Deathmatch, or recoil training maps. This routine is essential for professionals and helps you prepare your mind and muscles for battle.

To speed up ranking up in CS2, practice on community maps like Recoil Master – Spray Training. In the console, set sv_cheats 1 and sv_infinite_ammo 1, then shoot at a wall to visualize the full recoil pattern.

Mouse Sensitivity

Ideal mouse sensitivity is critical for stable control. We recommend setting in-game sensitivity around 2.0, with 400 DPI and a poll rate of 1000 Hz. This allows precise cursor control without excessive movement.

Economy Management

Effective economy management in CS2 is about spending at the right moment and buying with your team. Avoid random force buys that break future rounds. Winning the pistol round often grants a stronger subsequent buy, so consider SMGs and armor after a win.

Grenade Usage

Do not skimp on utility items. Smoke grenades block vision, while flashbangs in CS2 act as stun grenades, stunning enemies even without blinding them. Throwing an HE grenade into a smoke cloud can temporarily dissipate it, allowing you to shoot through.

Spray Patterns

Shooting requires recoil control. Learn basic spray patterns for weapons including AK-47, M4A4, Galil, FAMAS, and MP9. Once mastered, you will make fewer random shooting mistakes and focus more on movement.

Aiming

The first rule of better aim in CS2: keep your crosshair at head level. Many players aim too low while moving, wasting time dragging the crosshair up during fights. Good placement cuts delay and makes clean headshots easier.

Try to pre-aim common enemy positions before you see anyone. For example, when clearing Mirage Connector or Dust 2 Long, place your crosshair where an enemy head should appear.

Movement Mechanics and Counter-strafing

CS2 movement is a major difference between casual and strong ranked players. If you shoot while running, your bullets will fly almost anywhere except the enemy. Learn to stop before shooting, especially with rifles.

Counter-strafing is the main habit here. To stop quickly before shooting after moving left with 'A', tap 'D'; the reverse applies when moving right with 'D' by tapping 'A'. This short stop makes your first bullet accurate.

Avoid Burst Fire

Burst fire is generally unreliable; single taps or controlled sprays are preferred. In most fights, single taps, short bursts, or controlled sprays are more reliable than full automatic fire.

Reloading and Magazine Management

Reload only in cover when the opponent cannot swing you. Reloading in the open gives your opponent a free duel. On attack, conserve magazines to clear angles and finish site takes. On defense, reload in cover or switch to a secondary weapon.

Communication

Communication is essential for winning matches, especially when the team is weaker on paper. Provide short, useful callouts like "two short, bomb seen". Positive morale helps teams win despite being outmatched by stronger opponents.

Map Control

For defense, control exits to points so opponents cannot break through quickly. Attackers must anticipate defensive positions and read enemy actions. This comes with experience but can be simplified by watching pro players or reviewing demos.

Demo Review

Reviewing demos (own and others) reveals missed mistakes like bad peeks or poor reloads. You can review bad peeks, weak positioning, poor reloads, missed utility, and lost clutch decisions to improve your game.

Avoid Faking Too Often

Faking is rarely profitable on the pro stage due to opponent preparation. There, fakes are prepared for, and since a fake usually requires the expenditure of some resource or a second weakness of the one who is faking, it is simply not profitable to do it.
