Guns & Dragons: Test Build Reveals Level Design and Weapon Variety Issues
Studio A-Button showcased the new log-lite shooter Guns & Dragons at Gamecom 2026. The test build demonstrates solid first-person foundations but suffers from complex level design and a lack of weapon variety.
Company A-Button, founded by Kim Daehwan, unveiled a new project at Gamecom 2026: the log-lite shooter Guns & Dragons. Previously known for its MMORPG Zeus: God of Olympus, the studio's new title came as a surprise to the industry. Inven's Chong Jaehoon tested the first stage of the game and shared his initial impressions.
Strong FPS Mechanics
The core of Guns & Dragons is a classic log-lite shooter where players upgrade their character and choose builds between rounds. In the test build, basic first-person mechanics are solid, scoring around 70 out of 100 points. Shot effects, sound design, and overall dynamics meet first-person standards.
However, level design raises serious concerns. The battlefield often consists of narrow and complex spaces with numerous vertical cliffs on the edges. Players must use backward movement in conditions of poor visibility, which creates discomfort and reduces mobility efficiency. Unlike projects like Doom, where navigation is intuitive, it is difficult to orient oneself in space here without the risk of getting stuck.
Progression System Issues
The game features a selection system through three tracks: Animo, artifacts, and character level. However, excessive division into tracks complicates the process without adding real depth. Level skill choices often focus only on basic abilities (dash, grenades), while more interesting options are available through the Animo system.
The Animo system works by collecting color bonuses to unlock weapons: red unlocks the Magnum pistol, while blue and purple unlock the Bullet Drill assault rifle. The problem is that during a single run (about 25 minutes), players gain access to only two types of weapons. This contradicts the essence of log-lite shooters, where arsenal variety is a key element of enjoyment.
Development Prospects
Developers plan to expand the game by adding new characters and tools for gameplay balancing. Despite current issues with level design and weapon limitations, the project's potential is high. If the team can improve navigation and increase arsenal diversity, Guns & Dragons could become a worthy competitor in the market.
