Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree Boss Guide: Messmer and Promised Consort Radahn

Scadutree Fragments — Non-Negotiable

Before any boss: collect as many Scadutree Fragments as possible. Each raises your damage and defense inside the DLC. Without a high Sacred Tree Blessing level, even early bosses hit disproportionately hard. Aim for blessing level 15-18 before the final boss.

Messmer the Impaler — Main Antagonist

Messmer is Shadow of the Erdtree's main villain. His fight has two phases: Phase 1 — rapid spear attacks with periodic fire bursts. Phase 2 activates around 50% HP — Messmer absorbs serpents and becomes significantly more aggressive.

What works: Bleed and Frost are effective in Phase 1. A shield with good Guard Boost reliably blocks most hits. Summon: Black Knife Tiche dodges Messmer's fire effectively.

Promised Consort Radahn — Final Boss

The DLC's final boss is Promised Consort Radahn — one of FromSoftware's most technically demanding fights with incredible attack speed and huge range.

Phases: Phase 1 uses swords and star attacks. Phase 2 (around 50% HP) adds Miquella and transforms attacks with large AoE strikes.

What works: Mimic Tear holds aggro well in Phase 1. Lightning Spear deals strong damage across both phases. Patience over aggression — look for narrow attack windows.

General Tips

For most DLC bosses, Lightning and Holy damage outperforms Fire. Prioritize Scadutree Fragments over build optimization for specific bosses.
