GTA 6 gameplay reveal hits 3.97m peak viewers, overwhelming Twitch and Netflix
Grand Theft Auto VI's first gameplay presentation has set a new benchmark for streaming viewership, peaking at 3.97 million concurrent viewers across major platforms. The event, which aired on Netflix and was simulcast by thousands of streamers, overwhelmed both Twitch and Netflix infrastructure, causing significant technical disruptions that lasted up to 50 minutes for some users. Despite the outages, the reveal remains the largest gaming stream of 2026 so far, surpassing previous records set at Summer Game Fest and major Nintendo Directs.
Record-Breaking Viewership Numbers
According to data from Streams Charts, the reveal attracted a peak audience of 3,970,738 viewers. This figure accounts for the total concurrent viewership across all tracked livestreaming platforms during the presentation window. The event also generated 5,227,798 hours watched, driven by approximately 9,038 streamers who covered Rockstar Games' Netflix reveal.
In terms of platform distribution, Twitch captured the largest share of total viewing time, accounting for around 44 percent of hours watched. YouTube followed with 34.8 percent, while Kick made up the remaining 20.2 percent. These numbers place GTA 6's reveal ahead of Summer Game Fest 2026, which saw a peak of 3.81 million viewers, as well as June's Nintendo Direct and State of Play broadcasts.
Top Streamers and Individual Records
The event highlighted the dominance of Spanish streamer Juan Alberto "IlloJuan" García, who led all individual channels with a peak of 233,520 viewers. This marked a new record for his channel. He was followed by Rubius with 191,056 peak viewers and IShowSpeed with 177,887.
The reveal went out at 8pm UK time, but the sheer volume of demand caused technical issues on both Netflix and Twitch. Some viewers were reportedly locked out for 40-50 minutes. Despite this, internet hype remained high, with Streams Charts tracking more than 100,000 chat messages about the game across the three-hour analysis window.
Sentiment Analysis and Community Reaction
Analyzing the chat messages tracked during the reveal, the bulk of content—65-72 percent—was neutral. Positive messages made up 11-15 percent of the total, while negative messages sat at around 17-20 percent. Much of the negativity was directed not at the game itself, but at the Twitch and Netflix outages.

Around a fifth of all messages compared the reveal to Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, generally with a negative tone. One viewer notably complained: "GTA V DLC FOR 80$ LMAO".
Infrastructure Impact Beyond Gaming Platforms
The ripple effects of the reveal extended far beyond gaming platforms. Cloudflare, which handles more than a fifth of global internet traffic, shared its own numbers on the event's impact. Netflix's global traffic rose 16 percent compared to previous weeks as the Extended Look aired, with the spike even sharper in the UK at 45 percent.
Twitch saw its own surge, averaging a 12 percent increase over the three hours following the premiere and peaking at 35 percent. Meanwhile, YouTube jumped 39 percent when the trailer went live there at 1am.
But it was Rockstar's own website that saw the biggest swing of all. Traffic climbed 172 percent worldwide and a huge 1,210 percent in the UK.
Game Details Revealed
Grand Theft Auto 6 is due out on November 19th for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. This week's GTA 6 bonanza revealed a wealth of new information about the game, such as a changed Wanted system, a changed carjacking system, a new romance system, a huge game world, and a list of in-game activities.
This is what a billion dollars gets you, observed Chris Donlan, though as Chris Tapsell pointed out, this push towards realism and away from easy-going fun is a huge risk for the series – even if, he argued, it's ultimately right that it takes it.
Context: Rockstar North Disputes
This is a big and exciting moment for Rockstar after a week of leaked GTA 6 videos. But the hype has a bitter edge, as dozens of employees recently fired by Rockstar North continue to battle the company in employment tribunals over alleged union-busting.
