Genki Manta Crowdfunds Steam Controller Rival With Built-In Display And OS
Genki Manta, a fully programmable controller crowdfunded on Kickstarter, has raised over $400k to challenge the Steam Controller ecosystem with a built-in display running MantaOS and advanced hardware features.
The Genki Manta distinguishes itself from standard gamepads by integrating a Raspberry Pi RP2350 chip directly into the shell. This allows users to manage macros, customize bindings, and type text without relying on external software like Steam Input or system menus. The project aims to ship early bird units starting next February.

Beyond the screen, the controller offers several enthusiast-grade features often missing from mainstream alternatives. It includes three-stage adjustable triggers (digital click, short-throw, and full analog), four programmable back buttons, a swappable D-Pad, and full gyro support. Notably, it utilizes TMR joystick technology for drift-proof performance and allows users to adjust stick tension.

Perhaps the most nostalgic addition is the return of pressure-sensitive face buttons, a feature absent since the PlayStation 4 era. Genki intends to let users customize actuation distance per button, enabling emulation of analog functionality from PS2, PS3, or original Xbox libraries. However, the Super Early Bird pricing starts at $189 USD, with an anticipated final MSRP of $279.
