Gen.G sweep Lions 3-0 to reach Worlds semifinals
Gen.G eSports have advanced to the semifinals of Worlds after a commanding 3-0 victory over Lions. As the sole LCS representative in the quarterfinals, Lions were unable to stop the Korean powerhouse, setting up a high-stakes semifinal clash against China's iG.
The match took place on November 5 at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas. Having reached the semifinals in three consecutive Worlds, Gen.G now moves on to face iG for a chance to compete in the Grand Finals.
In Game 1, Gen.G established control early on. After a successful skirmish in the top lane involving Canyon (Kim Geon-bu) on K'Sante, the team maintained pressure through mid-lane and bottom-side objectives. A decisive fight at the 31-minute mark near the Baron pit secured the opening map.
The second map saw Gen.G quickly solidify their lead through superior skirmishing. After securing the Baron buff, they pushed into the Lions' base at the 26-minute mark, destroying key structures to take a 2-0 lead.
Chovy (Jeong Ji-hun) dominated the third game, opening with a crucial Taliyah ultimate that secured first blood. Following a dominant teamfight at the 14-minute mark and an Ace in the mid lane at 32 minutes, Gen.G marched into the Lions' nexus to complete the sweep.
