Galaxy S27 Ultra to feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 exclusively

The upcoming "Samsung" Galaxy S27 series may feature a split processor strategy depending on the market. Reports indicate that the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra will be equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 globally, whereas other models in the lineup will see a mix of Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets based on the region.

Regional chipset distribution

According to recent leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S27, S27+, and the newly rumored S27 Pro may receive different processors depending on where they are sold. While the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to stick with Qualcomm worldwide, the other models might use Exynos 2700 in Europe and South Korea, while relying on Qualcomm chips in the USA and China.

Internal discussions at Samsung are reportedly weighing the possibility of bringing the Exynos 2700 to the Ultra model as well. The chip division aims to achieve higher manufacturing yields compared to the Exynos 2600. However, the company must balance these internal goals with the strategic importance of maintaining favorable terms with Qualcomm, a long-term partner.

Exynos 2700 specs and display upgrades

The Exynos 2700, intended for the Galaxy S27, S27+, and S27 Pro, is expected to be built on the SF2P process—the second generation of 2-nm technology utilizing GAA (Gate-All-Around) transistors. Compared to the SF2 process used for the Exynos 2600, this transition is expected to deliver a 12% performance boost, a 25% reduction in power consumption, and an 8% decrease in die size. The chip is also rumored to incorporate ARM C2 processor cores.

On the display front, the Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra are rumored to feature the new M16 panel generation. A significant addition could be the implementation of DC-Dimming technology. Unlike the current PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) method used in devices like the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which can cause flickering and eye strain, DC-Dimming adjusts brightness by lowering the current, providing a more stable image. The standard S27 and S27+ models are expected to use M14+ generation OLED displays.
