Forza Horizon 6 Review — Tokyo, 550+ Cars, and the Best Horizon Game Ever Made

When Forza Horizon visits Japan, expectations are high. Mountain passes, neon-lit cities, classic Japanese sports cars — Playground Games delivers all of it and more. Forza Horizon 6 is not just the best Horizon game. It's 2026's best racing game, full stop.

Tokyo in Forza Horizon 6 is the series' most detailed drivable space — and you feel it at the wheel.

Forza Horizon 6 launched May 19, 2026 on Windows and Xbox Series X/S, and immediately became the month's defining game. Metacritic 92, Steam records, near-universal critical praise — all expected for Horizon, but this time it feels earned differently.

Map: Japan as the Main Character

The open world is a stylized Japan exceeding all previous Horizon maps in scale. Central to it is a fictionalized Tokyo with a road network five times larger than any prior Horizon city. Beyond Tokyo: mountain passes, rural landscapes, coastal roads, and purpose-built racing circuits.

Playground calls Tokyo "the most complex and intricate drivable space" in the franchise's history — and it lives up to that claim. The road density and environmental detail are unprecedented in the series.

550+ Cars and Driving Feel

The garage holds 550+ vehicles, from Japanese classics (Nissan GT-R, Honda NSX, Toyota Supra) to European supercars and American muscle. The driving model remains arcade-focused, but contact physics and tire behavior are measurably improved over FH5.

Progression and Live Service

FH6's progression loop — daily challenges, seasonal events, and the new Horizon Arcade mode — creates strong long-term engagement. Game Pass Day 1 opened the game to a massive audience; peak Steam saw 172,093 concurrent players.

Weaknesses: Nothing Critical

AI opponents remain predictable at higher difficulties. Festival narrative cutscenes are still the series' weakest element. The PC version (Metacritic 89) shows slight frame rate variance at ultra settings.

Verdict

Forza Horizon 6 does everything right, does it at scale, and does it beautifully. Metacritic 92 is deserved. Our MBG Score: 9.2 out of 10.
