Five Beast of Reincarnation Bosses: Encounters, Weaknesses, and Tactics

Beast of Reincarnation has many bosses waiting for you: from the Nushi you will fight in each region to dangerous Malefacts (and sometimes humans). You will fight many of these bosses several times throughout the game, with some gaining additional phases during rematches.

It is important to remember that many bosses have multiple phases and multiple health bars. A boss's health may be fully restored at the start of the second phase, so do not let your guard down until you are completely certain that the battle is over!

Here is a guide to the bosses you will encounter in Beast of Reincarnation:

Rangifer

The first Nushi you will fight in the game. It is a gigantic wooden deer.

Encounters:

Chapter 1: First fight (Lv. 9), second fight (Lv. 12)

Chapter 5: Lv. 32

Key details: The first fight introduces the mechanics of the first phase. The second fight in Chapter 1 introduces a second phase, and Rangifer will have two health bars (one for each phase). In Chapter 5, it will once again have two health bars.

Attacks: It mainly attacks by swinging its antlers back and forth. It can fire seed-like projectiles at Emma, charge forward, and kick rocks. The second fight adds a jumping attack.

Lacerta

The second Nushi on your path.

Encounters:

Chapter 2: First fight (Lv. 13), second fight (Lv. 16)

Key details: In the second fight, Lacerta will have two phases and two health bars. When its HP falls to 50%, it will begin glowing red and its attacks will become much more powerful.

Attacks and abilities: It can inflict Slow and Poison. It is recommended that Koo have Antidote. It has a dangerous tail attack and bites with its jaws. It can hide underwater and send mobs after you—deal with them quickly!

Nue Malefact (and Male Purifier - Shidou)

This boss will pursue you across several chapters.

Encounters:

Chapter 1: First fight (Lv. 16—in the second flashback)

Chapter 3: Without Male Purifier (Lv. 16), with Male Purifier (Lv. 20)

Chapter 6: Without Shidou (Lv. 32), with Shidou (Lv. 35)

Weaknesses: Nue Malefact and Male Purifier (Shidou) are vulnerable to Poison in every encounter. Use Dokuzeri attacks for Koo and Emma.

Attacks (Nue Malefact): Tail strike, paw strike, lunge, and occasional lightning attack. Later it can fire projectiles.

Attacks (Male Purifier): It mainly uses melee attacks, but can also perform hair-based attacks similar to Emma's.

Key details: Male Purifier joins Nue Malefact in the final fights of Chapters 3 and 6. Fortunately, they fight relatively fairly, taking turns attacking you, which lets you focus on one opponent.

Taurus

The Nushi from Chapter 4 (Stems).

Encounters:

Chapter 4: First fight (Lv. 26), second fight (Lv. 29)

Weaknesses: Vulnerable to Acid damage. Use ranged Acid attacks (such as Acid Arrows) and equip Koo with Bottle of Acid. Ranged attacks are preferable because Taurus leaps around frequently and is difficult to hit in melee.

Key details: The second fight has a second phase and a second health bar. Its moves remain roughly the same in the second phase, but it attacks much faster, so try to learn the rhythm for parrying.

Attacks: It strikes with its horns (a great opportunity to gain FP), lunges with its body, sends branches up from underground to hit Emma, and throws bombs. In the second fight, Golems will fight on its side, and it gains a new attack—a charge with its horns lowered.

Corvus

Corvus is a large flying boss (Malefact) resembling an enormous raven with three sharp legs. The battle consists of two consecutive encounters.

Encounters:

Chapter 7 (Giant Tree Zone): First encounter—on Line 0 (Lv. 38).

Chapter 7 (Giant Tree Zone): Second encounter—on Line 1 (Lv. 41).

Key details: As in the Rangifer and Lacerta fights, you will have to fight this boss twice. The first encounter has only one phase. The second encounter is harder: the boss is three levels higher, gains a new attack, and has a second phase (meaning two health bars). During its final phase, the boss temporarily gains a blight buff.

Weaknesses and defenses: Corvus uses Acid-element attacks. Be sure to equip armor that increases Acid resistance (such as Amber Breastplate), or bring items that remove status effects. The boss itself is extremely vulnerable to Shock. Use the Fall Thunder sword, Koo's Sakura: Javelin Bloom Art ability, and Lightning Arrows for Emma.

Attacks and tactics:

Corrosive Bombs: The boss's legs begin glowing red, after which it drops a barrage of bombs. They deal damage on contact and leave pools of Acid on the ground that inflict damage over time. Tactic: Dodge the first volley and use the grapple points scattered around the arena to move to safety.

Claw Stab: Corvus strikes Emma three times in a row with its legs. Tactic: This is the best opportunity to parry and restore FP for Koo's abilities (Bloom Arts).

Peck Dive: It flies upward and dives at you, dealing damage on contact. In the final phase, this attack is imbued with blight. It is easy to read and dodge.

Flying Summons: Available only in the second fight. The boss summons small ravens to help it. Tactic: Quickly shoot them down with a bow (Crossbow or Zangetsu Bow) before they begin causing trouble.
