Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave — Massive RPG Project from Intelligent Systems
After spending 20 hours in the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave preview, it becomes clear that the scale of this project from Intelligent Systems exceeds expectations. Developers have created an RPG with a wide range of story branches, a deep world, and a complex consequence system that unfolds as you progress.

The game launches on September 17, 2026, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. Unlike previous entries in the series, there is no single path for the story. Players encounter a labyrinth of events where every decision influences multiple aspects of the narrative.

The story revolves around four main protagonists: Theodora — a warrior queen determined to do right by her people; Dietrech — a foreign swordsman intrigued by local martial customs; Cai — a young village boy caught in a conspiracy; and Leda — a traveling performer seeking revenge. By the 10-hour mark, players are given choices to follow these characters' stories.

The combat system retains the classic turn-based grid style but receives significant improvements. Specialized classes with unique abilities appear: for example, chariots can mow down rows of enemies, while magical classes combine offense and support. Each main protagonist has special skills — Theodora can throw rocks across the battlefield to end battles before they begin in earnest. However, using such abilities consumes HP, creating a balance between risk and reward.

Developers have overhauled the attack animation system, adding more detail for new units and weapons. Enemy AI on harder modes has become smarter: they target the weakest members of the party and use critical hits with greater frequency.

Between stages of the Heroic Games tournament held in the capital city of Dagison, players are given time to develop their characters. You can train at the arena, complete tasks for the Gods, participate in side missions, trade with companies, or simply explore the city. The game world is partially inspired by medieval Spain, although the setting of the Dagdan Empire appears much older.

The game also returns dungeons from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. They use a separate turn-based combat system reminiscent of older Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest titles, changing the pacing and allowing players to level up characters outside main story encounters.

According to critic Dom Peppiatt from Eurogamer, even in the first few hours of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, it feels like one of the best entries in the series. The project appears to be the most ambitious and large-scale Fire Emblem title on the Switch 2 console.
