Fallout 76 passes 25 million players as it nears its eighth anniversary
Fallout 76 has reached 25 million players. The announcement was made by the official Fallout account on X on October 23rd.
The milestone was announced during Fallout Day alongside a short video. The developers noted that the game is nearing its eighth anniversary and thanked the "25 Million Appalachian Vault Dwellers" for playing. The post did not specify how players were counted or provide a breakdown by platform.
Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the online prequel launched on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on November 14, 2018. The game is set 25 years after the bombs fall, tasking players with surviving in a post-nuclear America. Currently, the game features "The Slasher" seasonal event, where players hunt for clues, dig up unmarked graves, and fight fanatics.
According to a "Letter from the Directors" published by Creative Director Jon Rush and Production Director Bill LaCoste, the roadmap extends through summer 2027. The next update, World Pets, is scheduled for December. It will allow C.A.M.P. pets to follow players, level up, and fight alongside them, while also introducing bounty hunting in Skyline Valley.
In the spring, the Hideouts update will introduce tougher bounty encampments, serving as a stepping stone between early endgame and Raids. This update will include a new "Marked" difficulty and a rival bounty hunter known as The Drifter. Later in 2027, the map is expected to expand toward the Capital Wasteland with the Raven Rock location, set nearly 200 years before the events of Fallout 3. Other planned improvements include seasonal events, rendering, weather, the player experience, and fishing.
