EWC announces 2027 and 2028 event details
The Esports Foundation has revealed details for the 2027 and 2028 editions of the $2 million Esports World Cup (EWC) for Counter-Strike 2. Key updates include a shift to a late July schedule and a return to Riyadh.
The 2027 portion of EWC is scheduled to run from July 20 to August 1, while the 2028 event is tentatively targeting July 14–30. This shift from August to late July suggests an attempt to position the tournament more centrally in the competitive calendar, immediately following the summer player break.
The return to Saudi Arabia is expected, following the relocation of EWC 2026 to Paris due to regional tensions involving the US and Iran.
EWC 2027 will maintain the same format and Last Chance Qualifier structure used in 2026. The slot allocation for the main event is confirmed as follows:
- 20 Global VRS invites;
- 2 North American VRS invites;
- 2 South American VRS invites;
- 2 Asian VRS invites;
- 2 Wildcard invites;
- 4 teams from the Riyadh Open Qualifier.
