Escape From Tarkov Best Weapons: Tier List and Guide

In Escape from Tarkov, weapon choice determines success in raids. The difficulty lies in the fact that access to top-tier samples is often limited by trader levels or rare loot drops. This guide will help you understand the current meta situation of version 1.0 and determine which weapons to take for different tasks.

We have divided all firearms into four categories: S-tier (best), A-tier (very good), B-tier (average), and C-tier (budget or situational). The rating takes into account not only damage, but also ammo availability, modding possibilities, and effectiveness in combat against body armor. It is important to remember that even S-tier weapons can be useless without suitable ammo or shooting skills.

The guide was updated on July 17, 2026, taking into account changes in the economy and loot availability after the release of version 1.0. The information is relevant for the current state of the game, including restrictions on trading via Flea Market and trader level requirements.

S-tier Weapons: Best Choice

Weapons of this level provide maximum efficiency in most situations. They either have outstanding accuracy and recoil control or deal critical damage with the first shot.

AUG A3

The AUG A3 assault rifle works on 5.56×45 ammo (M855A1 or M995). It is an ideal choice for close-to-mid-range fights. It is available through barter trades or military loot. Its main advantage is low recoil and stable shooting even without complex modifications. In stock form, the AUG A3 competes with more expensive kits, making it an excellent choice for beginners.

DT MDR 7.62×51

The DT MDR assault rifle is considered a universal weapon for PvP. It is effective at all ranges and works on 7.62×51 ammo (M80, M62). You can get it through a deal with the Peacekeeper trader at LL3 or find it in military zones. This weapon sets the standard of quality for the current patch.

MK47 Mutant

The MK47 Mutant assault rifle deals huge damage and runs smoothly. It uses 7.62×39 (BP) ammo and is available through a deal with the Mechanic trader at LL4 or rare boss loot. With proper modifications, it controls recoil better than any other weapon, allowing you to quickly eliminate opponents.

SA-58

The SA-58 assault rifle is one of the most brutal weapons in the game. It fires 7.62×51 rounds and works excellently in semi-automatic mode. Available through rare drops, military crates, or trader deals. Ideal for mid-to-long range fights.

.300 Blackout MCX

This weapon is ideal for stealth flanking and close-quarters combat (CQB). It works on .300 Blackout ammo (AP or Subsonic) and is available only through trader deals or high-tier loot. Thanks to the low sound signature of the rounds, it pairs excellently with suppressors.

HK 416A5

The HK 416A5 assault rifle is versatile: it has laser recoil, high cyclic rate, and full mod support. Available through a deal with the Mechanic trader at LL4 or boss loot. Despite the difficulty of acquisition, this is one of the few 5.56 mm rifles that maintains premium quality under release restrictions.

Serdyukov SR-1MP Gyurza

The Serdyukov SR-1MP Gyurza pistol (known as "Shrimp") works on 9x21 mm ammo. It is available through a deal with the Prapor trader at LL2 or scav loot. This weapon deals damage to class 4–5 armor better than most budget SMGs, making it an excellent choice for survival with a limited budget.

A-tier Weapons: Very Good Choice

Weapons of this level are slightly inferior to S-tier but are still an excellent choice. They are easier to acquire or require fewer modifications.

AUG A1

The AUG A1 assault rifle works on 5.56×45 ammo (M855, M855A1). It is available through trader deals or raider drops. The main limitation is ammo dependency: without M855A1 rounds, damage against body armor will be low.

SIG SPEAR

The SIG SPEAR assault rifle works on .277 Fury rounds and is excellent for close-quarters combat. Available only through high-level trader deals or rare boss drops. It penetrates class 5–6 armor even in burst mode.

FN40GL

The FN40GL grenade launcher works on 40mm grenade rounds (HE, smoke). Available only through rare boss drops or event rewards. Not sold by traders and not craftable.

M32A1

The M32A1 grenade launcher works on 40mm grenade rounds (HE, flash, smoke). Available through bosses or high-tier loot. Has six charges and is excellent for clearing rooms, but has a large size and slow reload.

ADAR 2-15

The ADAR 2-15 assault rifle works on 5.56×45 ammo (M855, M855A1). Available through a deal with the Skier trader at LL2. This is a classic semi-automatic rifle that is excellent for beginners.

TX-15 DML

The TX-15 DML sniper rifle works on 5.56×45 ammo (M855A1, M995). Available through a deal with the Peacekeeper trader at LL3 or rare drops. Ideal for long-range shooting in semi-automatic mode.

SKS

The SKS sniper rifle works on 7.62×39 ammo (PS, BP). Available through loot or trader deals. This is cheap and reliable weapon that is excellent for close-to-mid range combat.

OP-SKS

The OP-SKS sniper rifle works on 7.62×39 ammo (PS, BP). Available through a deal with the Jaeger trader. The main advantage is the ability to install optical sights thanks to the dovetail mount.

B-tier Weapons: Average Choice

Weapons of this level are not meta but can be useful in certain situations or at early stages of the game.

ASh-12 12.7×55 Assault Rifle

The ASh-12 assault rifle works on 12.7×55 ammo (PS12B). Available through a deal with the Prapor trader at LL3 or boss drops. Important: it can be used only after unlocking PS12B ammo.

Saiga 12ga ver.10

The Saiga 12ga semi-automatic shotgun works on 12/70 rounds (buckshot, slugs, flechettes). Available through loot or a deal with the Mechanic trader at LL1. Excellent for close-quarters combat in tight spaces.

HK MP7A1

The HK MP7A1 submachine gun works on 4.6×30 ammo (Subsonic SX, AP SX). Available through a deal with the Mechanic trader at LL3 or raider drops. Thanks to subsonic rounds, recoil is minimal.

Kel-Tec RFB

The Kel-Tec RFB rifle works on 7.62×51 ammo (M80, M62). Available through a deal with the Peacekeeper trader at LL3 or military loot. Excellent for budget long-range shooting.

Kalashnikov AKM

The Kalashnikov AKM assault rifle works on 7.62×39 ammo (PS, BP). Available through a deal with the Prapor trader at LL2 or raider/scav loot. This is a reliable weapon for all situations.

Colt M1911A1

The Colt M1911A1 pistol works on .45 ACP ammo (FMJ, AP). Available through trader deals or loot. Excellent for early game as a backup weapon.

FN Five-seveN MK2

The FN Five-seveN MK2 pistol works on 5.7×28 ammo (SS190). Available through rare trader deals or boss drops. Excellent against body armor and suitable for precise shooting.

C-tier Weapons: Budget Choice

Weapons of this level have limitations in availability, damage, or effectiveness against modern armor.

HK UMP.45 ACP

The HK UMP.45 submachine gun works on .45 ACP ammo (FMJ, AP). Available through trader deals or boss loot. In version 1.0, its effectiveness drops due to low penetration of rounds against class 4+ armor.

Desert Tech MDR

The Desert Tech MDR assault rifle works on 5.56×45 ammo (M855, M855A1, M995). Available through a deal with the Peacekeeper trader at LL3 or rare loot. Without M855A1 or M995 rounds, it poorly penetrates armor.

MP-153

The MP-153 semi-automatic shotgun works on 12×70 rounds (flechette, 7mm, AP-20). Available through trader deals or scav loot. Excellent for close-quarters combat, but ineffective against high armor.

PPSh-41

The PPSh-41 submachine gun works on 7.62x25 mm ammo (TT). Available through early game loot or scav guns. Has high rate of fire, but low penetration of rounds against modern armor.

TOZ KS-23M

The TOZ KS-23M pump-action shotgun works on 23x75 mm rounds (Barrikada, Zvezda). Available only through a deal with the Prapor trader at LL4. Banned from Flea Market.

Dynamics RD-704

The Dynamics RD-704 assault rifle works on 7.62×39 ammo (BP). Available only through a deal with the Mechanic trader at LL4. This is a late-game weapon as it requires high trader level.

Molot VPO-215 "Gornostay"

The Molot VPO-215 bolt-action rifle works on .366 TKM ammo (A-PM). Available through trader deals or early game loot. Accuracy drops beyond 30 meters.

Best Weapons for Beginners

If you are just starting to play Escape from Tarkov, it is best to start with the Kalashnikov AKM assault rifle. It uses 7.62×39 ammo, which deals huge damage even through armor, and recoil is easily controlled. Also excellent are SKS and OP-SKS sniper rifles — they are cheap, accurate, and do not require complex modifications. For close-quarters combat, MP-153 or Saiga-12 shotguns are suitable, and for a pistol, HK UMP.45 or PPSh-41.
