Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition: An Interview with Erika Ishii

One year after its initial launch, Ghost of Yōtei is returning with the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition for PS5. This bundle includes the original story campaign, the Legends multiplayer mode, and two major additions: the narrative expansion Echoes of Sekigahara and a new roguelike mode titled Most Wanted. In a recent interview with PlayStation Blog, actress Erika Ishii, the voice of Atsu, shared insights into the production of these new chapters.

The Echoes of Sekigahara expansion features a non-linear narrative, splitting the story between the present day and flashbacks to Atsu's past. Ishii revealed that the dialogue for this expansion was recorded several months after the main game's production concluded. She emphasized that having the opportunity to play the finished game during development was a significant advantage, helping her better navigate the character's emotional shifts during the flashback sequences.

The Most Wanted mode introduces a mystical, non-canonical roguelike experience. Ishii confirmed that new dialogue was recorded specifically for this mode to match its heightened, mythological tone. The mode also features returning characters, including Jin, with new voice lines provided by Daisaku Tsuji.

Reflecting on her journey, Ishii described the project as a career milestone. Beyond the technical aspects of voice acting, the expansion allows for a deeper exploration of Atsu's character, including personal connections and backstory elements that were hinted at but not fully realized in the original release.
