DLSS-NR-on-AMD mod brings full DLSS 5 suite to Radeon GPUs
The full suite of Nvidia DLSS 5 features is now available on AMD Radeon GPUs. Thanks to the DLSS-NR-on-AMD mod, users can access Neural Rendering, Ray Reconstruction, and Multi-Frame Generation (MFG) on AMD Radeon RX 6000, 7000, and 9000 series hardware.
Technical Implementation and Features
The DLSS-NR-on-AMD v0.8.0 mod is a complete reimplementation of Nvidia neural network runtimes for AMD architectures. The developer has rewritten the software from scratch, covering HIP kernels, memory layouts, and game integration. The current release supports DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution (Models M and L), Ray Reconstruction (Model F), and up to 4x Multi-Frame Generation (MFG).
To simplify the setup, the mod includes NeuralHub, a centralized overlay for managing these features. However, users are still required to provide their own DLL files for each Nvidia technology. The mod is currently in its alpha phase, primarily targeting DirectX 12 games running on Windows 11.
Performance and Compatibility
Performance results remain inconsistent. The developer claims that a Radeon RX 9070 XT can achieve 90–100 FPS with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering, with the ultimate goal of matching the performance of an Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti. Real-world user reports vary significantly: while some see no performance degradation in Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing at 1440p, others have noted substantial drops. One user reported a frame rate dip from 120 FPS to 90 FPS when switching from FSR 4.1 to DLSS 4.5, with Ray Reconstruction further reducing it to 68 FPS.
The mod is compatible with AMD Radeon RX 6000, 7000, and 9000 series GPUs, even though older models lack dedicated hardware for these specific tasks. It is important to note that some titles, including Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 9, and Pragmata, are reportedly incompatible. As an alpha-stage mod, it may lack the stability and optimization found in official Nvidia implementations or AMD driver support.
