Digimon Story Time Stranger Update Review: Terriermon, Photo Mode, and Useful Fixes
This is not a major story patch, but these are the kinds of updates that make an RPG easier to play every day.
What the Patch Adds
Bandai Namco presents the July update as a free set of improvements. It includes playable Terriermon Assistant, Photo Mode during field exploration, a Digivolution Conditions screen in Digifarm, and Graphics Mode selection on Nintendo Switch 2.
The rollout is split by platform: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam receive it on July 8 PDT / July 9 CEST, while Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 follow later depending on region.
Why It Is a Good Service Patch
The update's strength is that it does not sell itself as a revolution. Terriermon Assistant adds a recognizable fan touch, Photo Mode supports exploration, and Digivolution Conditions solves a practical problem by showing what a Digimon needs to evolve.
For a collecting RPG, that kind of clarity matters. The less players have to leave the game for reference, the better progression and experimentation feel.
Graphics Mode on Switch 2
Graphics Mode selection is specifically planned for Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. Quality Mode targets 4K HDR up to 30 FPS, while Performance Mode targets Full HD up to 60 FPS. Bandai Namco notes that the option is not available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series S, or Steam.
That is a useful platform boundary because players know where the choice exists and where the patch does not overpromise.
Verdict
8/10. The update does not turn Digimon Story Time Stranger into a different game, but it adds useful comfort features and one notable fan-facing addition. For active players, it is a strong support patch.
