CS2 update overhauls demo viewer and locks round backups behind server flag
The latest Counter-Strike 2 update from Valve focuses on quality-of-life improvements for those who spend time analyzing matches. The patch primarily targets the demo and replay viewer and introduces changes to server-side file handling.
The demo and replay viewer has received several significant usability updates. Downloads now feature a progress bar to indicate download status, eliminating guesswork during the process. Camera controls have transitioned to a click-and-drag scheme, and both free and chase cameras are now functional while a demo is paused. This allows players, coaches, and analysts to inspect key moments from any angle. Additionally, minor issues when seeking to different positions within a demo file have been resolved.
On the technical side, Valve has changed how round backup files are handled. These files, which allow a server to restore a match to an earlier round, will now only function if the server is started with the -allow_round_backup_files flag. This shift means server operators must now explicitly opt-in to use this feature.
Other notable changes in this update include:
- Updated AUG standing and crouch reload animations to match the weapon's new reload duration.
- Introduction of an explicit list of allowed radio commands.
- Addition of a new skybox occluder material for Workshop Tools.
- Stability improvements for the Vulkan renderer.
