CS2 player count declines for seven months in a row
Counter-Strike 2 is currently facing a challenging period. For the first time in the history of the CS:GO/CS2 era, the active player count has seen a consecutive decline for seven months straight.
By the end of September 2026, the average player count for CS2 dropped to approximately 805,000. This represents the lowest average engagement since February 2024, a trend first highlighted by content creator Alex "Mauisnake" Ellenberg.
Current discourse surrounding the game has centered on whether Valve should implement a Kernel-level anti-cheat similar to the one found in VALORANT. While some argue such a move is necessary to combat cheating, Slasher notes that, as far as he knows, Valve does not want to commit to a Kernel-level solution.
On a more positive note, Travis "Trav" Landaw Mott pointed to the introduction of the Rush gamemode as evidence that Valve is finally getting serious about adding new content. With leaks suggesting more updates are on the horizon in the coming months, the game's trajectory remains a major topic of interest.
