Compulsion Games officially separates from Xbox
Compulsion Games has officially separated from Xbox Game Studios, with management acquiring the studio and its staff to ensure their continued unity.
Studio CEO Guillaume Provost confirmed the deal, emphasizing that the team would "rather eat rocks and drink gasoline than be split up." The acquisition allows Compulsion Games to regain full ownership of its intellectual properties, including Contrast, We Happy Few, and South of Midnight.
Provost described the exit as a "gracious" move by Microsoft, noting that retaining the entire team is far superior to facing layoffs. The studio aims to become self-sustaining while exploring new partnerships and funding alternatives.
"We're excited to gain back the rights of our intellectual properties and to keep making interesting, weird stories and weird worlds," Provost stated. The studio plans to take things slow as it sets up for a profitable future.
