Combat, Exploration, and Bonding: How the Twine System Redefines Monster Catching in Aniimo
Monster catching and collecting has become a genre of its own, but Aniimo aims to push beyond the established norms. Following its global launch on PC and consoles, alongside the mobile release, the Pawprint Studio team shared insights into how their Twine system redefines world exploration.
The core differentiator for Aniimo is the ability to go beyond mere command. Through the Twine system, players can switch to a monster's perspective, experiencing the world through their eyes and ears. This allows players to perceive environmental sounds as their creatures do and even integrate into the lives of wild herds by completing species-specific tasks, fostering a deeper emotional bond between the player and their companions.

The game's design integrates combat, exploration, and bonding into a cohesive loop. Elemental attributes are not just for combat advantages; they are essential tools for environmental interaction. For instance, fire attributes can be used to burn vines or melt ice to uncover treasures. Furthermore, the capturing mechanics offer more than just the traditional method of depleting health; players can utilize stealth, ambushes, and specialized tools to catch creatures more naturally.

Visually, the developers focused on creating a "warm" atmosphere. Pawprint Studio paid special attention to textures: from soft fur to metallic surfaces and liquid effects for slimes. This helps make the fantasy creatures feel more tangible and alive.

Regarding content, the developers plan to expand the game through seasonal updates. Each season will last approximately 84 days, divided into two 42-day phases. Updates are expected to introduce new locations, story lines, and new species. Currently, over 200 types of Aniimo have been confirmed, and this list will continue to grow.

Despite the wide spectrum of genres—from roguelike to housing—the team asserts that they all serve a single goal: building a living community. Players can participate in PvPVE egg battles or decorate their own spaces in Camping Car Camp, creating a social environment without the excessive pressure often found in traditional MMORPGs.
