Canyon Dominates the Rift as Gen.G Claims Game 1 Against IG in Worlds 2026 Semifinals
Gen.G Esports has taken a commanding lead in the 2026 League of Legends World Championship semifinals. Led by a destructive performance from Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu, Gen.G secured a decisive victory in Game 1 against IG at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen, Texas.
The opening match of the semifinals saw Gen.G establish early momentum through superior jungle play and decisive skirmishing. The battleground initially centered on the top lane, where heavy damage trades erupted between Kang "TheShy" Seung-lok's Kled and Kim "Kiin" Gi-in's Olaf. As both junglers gravitated toward the lane, IG attempted to capitalize on a health advantage with a tower dive, but Gen.G responded effectively, securing a 2-for-1 kill trade.
Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu's Qiyana proved to be the deciding factor in the early game. After a successful mid-lane gank that brought her score to 3/0/0, Canyon's presence on the map forced IG into difficult positions. Gen.G capitalized on these advantages by ambushing IG during a Voidgrubs contest, resulting in a four-kill sweep for Gen.G, with Joo "Duro" Min-gyu's Leona being the only casualty.
Despite IG's attempts to shut down the fed Qiyana—which saw 'Wei' on Vi engage with Flash and her ultimate—Gen.G maintained control. Even after Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon's Cassiopeia was picked off in a side lane, Gen.G immediately retaliated by taking down Kled on the opposite side of the map. IG attempted a desperate push against Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk's Jhin under the tier-2 mid tower, but Gen.G's rotations were too fast, securing three kills during the chase.
The gap in gold became insurmountable as Gen.G secured the Hextech Soul and pushed their lead toward 10,000 gold. Utilizing a Baron buff, Gen.G executed a surprise engage with Qiyana on Song "Rookie" Eui-jin's Syndra, ultimately leveraging their numerical advantage to push into the base and end the game.
