Bose Debuts Sport and Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen)
Bose is expanding its audio portfolio by leaning into the open-ear form factor. The new additions are split into two tiers: the $199 Bose Sport Open Earbuds and the more premium Bose Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen) at $299. Both models target users who prefer not to use traditional in-ear silicone tips but want to maintain mobility and comfort.
Bose Sport Open Earbuds: Built for Movement
The Bose Sport Open Earbuds represent a new product entry for the company. Designed specifically for runners, gym-goers, and outdoor enthusiasts, these earbuds are engineered to stay secure during strenuous activity. Instead of a traditional in-ear seal, they utilize a C-arm cuff with a soft matte silicone finish that anchors around the outer ear. Bose claims this mechanical fit is stable enough to withstand vigorous motions, such as headshakes or even cartwheels.
The earbuds carry an IP54 rating for sweat, splash, and dust resistance. Audio is delivered via custom-designed drivers, supported by SpeechClarity—an AI-enhanced technology that isolates the user's voice during calls by muffling background noise. They also feature an auto-volume function that adjusts sound based on ambient noise levels. Battery life offers up to 7 hours of playback on a single charge, with an additional 22 hours provided by the charging case.
Stepping Up: Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen)
For those seeking a flagship experience, Bose unveiled the Ultra Open Earbuds (2nd Gen). While they retain the signature cuff shape of the first generation, they feature a refined metallic cap with a beveled finish. The redesigned case is more pocket-friendly, can stand upright, and now supports wireless charging.

The second-generation model also features newly engineered drivers, which Bose claims deliver deeper bass and higher volume compared to the original version. Battery performance has also seen an upgrade, providing up to 9 hours of playback, with a total of 28.5 hours when including the 19.5 hours of charge from the case.
Shared Features and Availability
Since these are open-ear designs, neither model features active noise cancellation (ANC). Instead, they rely on proprietary OpenAudio technology to direct sound inward while minimizing leakage to those around you. Both models support Bluetooth 5.4 with MultiPoint connectivity and Google Fast Pair.
Pre-orders begin on September 19, with a full release scheduled for October 1. The lineup will include standard Black and White Smoke colors, alongside limited-edition options: Eucalyptus Green for the Sport model, and Cherry Chocolate, Olive Green, and Sky Pink for the Ultra series.
