Blizzard Unveils Diablo IV's 'Season of Hell's Legacy' and New Amazon Class
At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment revealed the future roadmap for Diablo IV, celebrating the franchise's 30th anniversary. The announcement highlighted the upcoming Season of Hell's Legacy and confirmed that the long-awaited Amazon class will join the roster in a 2027 update.
The Season of Hell's Legacy is set to launch on September 16, 2026. The centerpiece of this anniversary season is the return of the iconic Deckard Cain. According to game designer Daniel Tanguay, Cain will return to the mortal realm possessing a borrowed body to resolve his past regrets, serving as a special guide for players throughout the season.

A new mechanic called Waking Nightmares will allow players to enter visions of the three Dark Wanderers: Aidan, Tal Rasha, and San كهค (San Kheku). These encounters range from massive, capstone-style dungeons recreating battles in the Cathedral of Tristram to random world events involving bosses like the Queen of the Araneae. Defeating these threats grants Splinter of Evil, powerful artifacts that allow players to harness the abilities of the Prime Evils—Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal. These splinters can be leveled up to unlock massive elemental attacks and utility bonuses for character builds.

Game Director Brent Gibson emphasized that the updates aim to foster a healthier combat environment, moving away from a reliance on extreme one-shot burst damage. Other significant additions include nine legendary legacy items (such as King Leoric's Crown), new recipes for upgrading Mythic gear, and a Rebirth feature that allows players to carry their endgame characters into the new season.

Looking further ahead, the Amazon class is scheduled to arrive in early 2027 as a paid class pack. The Amazon will feature four distinct archetypes: two classic styles (Bow and Javelin) and two entirely new playstyles. The javelin will function as a versatile one-handed ranged weapon that can be paired with a shield, enabling a mix of mid-to-close range combat and elemental utility.
