Best CS2 Guns: Tier List and Round-by-Round Guide
In this guide, we will break down the best weapons for Counter-Strike 2. We have compiled a tier list to help you choose the optimal pistol or rifle for every round and map situation. This material is relevant for Season 5 (July 2026) and accounts for recent balance changes.
It is important to remember: even the most expensive weapon does not guarantee victory. The reload mechanic has been changed so that when switching magazines, all remaining bullets are discarded. This means every reload takes a fresh full magazine while any rounds left in the old one are discarded. Be careful not to run out of ammo in the middle of a round.

We have divided all available weapons into categories from S to C based on damage, accuracy, range, and round-winning potential.

S-Tier: Best Rifles and Sniper Rifle
These weapons are suitable for full-buy rounds. They offer the best combination of damage, accuracy, and range.
AK-47 (Terrorists, T)
- Price: $2,700
- Damage: 36 per hit. Headshot: 111 (with helmet).
- Features: The best rifle due to the ability to kill with a single headshot even against an opponent with a helmet. High damage and good armor penetration.
- Drawbacks: Strong recoil requiring practice for control.
M4A1-S (Counter-Terrorists, CT)
- Price: $2,900
- Damage: 38 per hit. Headshot: 92 (with helmet).
- Features: Best choice for accurate shots and hidden smoke spam thanks to the suppressor. Recoil is lighter than AK-47.
- Drawbacks: Fewer bullets (20 in magazine) compared to M4A4.
M4A4 (Counter-Terrorists, CT)
- Price: $2,900
- Damage: 33 per hit. Headshot: 92 (with helmet).
- Features: After the magazine update, it now has 150 total rounds: 30 loaded and four reserve magazines. Ideal for holding positions and working with smoke grenades.
- Drawbacks: Recoil is slightly harder to control than M4A1-S.
AWP (both sides)
- Price: $4,750
- Damage: 115 per hit. Headshot: 448 (with helmet).
- Features: Controls long sightlines. One accurate body shot often kills the opponent.
- Important: The 15-shot limit per round—five rounds loaded and two reserve magazines— makes reload mistakes very costly.
A-Tier: Budget Rifles and Pistols
Great alternative for rounds with limited budget or secondary weapons.
Desert Eagle (Pistol)
- Price: $700
- Damage: 53 per hit. Headshot: 191 (with helmet).

Galil AR (Terrorists, T)
- Price: $1,800
- Damage: 30 per hit. Headshot: 92 (with helmet).
- Features: Best budget rifle for Terrorists. Large magazine (35 bullets) allows for quick attacks.
FAMAS (Counter-Terrorists, CT)
- Price: $1,950
- Damage: 30 per hit. Headshot: 84 (with helmet).
- Features: The main budget rifle for Counter-Terrorists. Increased ammo reserve allows holding positions longer.
MP9 and MAC-10 (SMG)
Best submachine guns for close combat and low-budget rounds.
- MP9 (CT): $1,250. One of the strongest Counter-Terrorist SMGs, with a high fire rate and good close-range accuracy.
- MAC-10 (T): $1,050. Excellent for fast map attacks. Cheaper than most primary rifles.
B-Tier: Pistols and Specialized Weapons
Used when budget is limited or as an alternative to main rifles.
- USP-S (CT): $200. One of the Counter-Terrorist starting pistols. Good for accurate headshots (70 damage).
- Glock-18 (T): $200. The Terrorist starting pistol. Can switch between single and burst fire.
- Dual Berettas (both sides): $300. Cheap option with high fire rate (500 RPM), but unreliable at range.
- UMP-45: $1,200. SMG with the highest damage potential among submachine guns.
- SG 553 (T) / AUG (CT): scoped rifles for long-range fights. The SG 553 is available to Terrorists, while the AUG belongs to Counter-Terrorists.
C-Tier: Niche Weapons
These weapons work only in specific situations or against certain tactics.
- MP5-SD: $1,500. Silence and lack of muzzle flash make it ideal for stealthy approaches.
- P-90: $2,350. Huge magazine (50 bullets) and high fire rate. Suitable for aggressive play.
- SCAR-20 (CT) / G3SG1 (T): automatic sniper rifles costing $5,000. High damage and penetration, but expensive.
