Beast of Reincarnation: parry-rich combat and the cutest mutant pup
Beast of Reincarnation from Game Freak launches on PlayStation 5 tomorrow, August 4. Editor Flashka has tested the demo and highlights the core combat mechanics and narrative elements.
A World of Mutated Mystery
The game is set in Japan in the year 4026, where plants, birds, beasts, and humans have been corrupted by a cataclysm called the Blight. The primary threats are Nushi, powerful and often colossal beings that spread fear and destruction. This cycle is driven by the fabled Beast of Reincarnation, which resurrects every 100 years.
Parry or Die
The protagonist, Emma, wields a swift sword via R1 that can be chained into combos, projectile weapons including bolts and arrows, and a nimble dodge with the Circle button. Blocking and parrying using L1 is crucial for survival against tougher foes.
Koo: The Bestest of Boys
The large wolf-like Koo serves as a battle companion, able to be directed to attack enemies or utilize his powerful Bloom Arts. His skills are invaluable when timed correctly during the corresponding mini-game, and he guides players to objectives with visual indicators.
Food, Systems, and Skill Trees
The game features hidden depth with multiple weapons that can be found and enhanced, skill trees for both Emma and Koo, and a mysterious character named Violet who only Emma can see. Additionally, food is essential for healing and stat bonuses, while cooking skills improve meal benefits.
