OLED, IP67, and A20 Pro: Apple Unveils the Massive iPad mini 2026
Apple has officially announced the 2026 model of the iPad mini, marking a significant leap forward for the series. The new tablet introduces major upgrades to its display technology, durability, and processing power. It is scheduled for release on November 6, with pre-orders starting on October 29.
The most notable upgrade is the switch to an OLED display. The screen size has increased to 8.5 inches, a slight bump of 0.2 inches over the previous generation. Remarkably, despite the larger screen, the device's physical footprint is slightly smaller and thinner, measuring 132.6 × 195.3 mm with a thickness of just 5.4 mm. Users can also opt for a Nano-texture display to reduce glare.
For the first time in the iPad mini lineup, the device features water and dust resistance rated at IP67. This allows for more versatile use in environments like kitchens or poolside, though Apple notes that accidental submersion in baths may not be covered under warranty.
Under the hood, the iPad mini is powered by the A20 Pro chip, the same silicon found in the iPhone 18 Pro series. This ensures high-end gaming performance and full support for Apple Intelligence. A key distinction in the lineup is the CPU configuration: the 128GB and 256GB models utilize a 5-core CPU, while the 512GB model is equipped with a more powerful 6-core CPU.
The new iPad mini will be available in two finishes: Midnight and Starlight. Pricing starts at 119,800 ¥ for the base Wi-Fi model and goes up to 196,800 ¥ for the top-tier 512GB Cellular version.
