Apple offers Mac Studio with 512GB RAM for professionals
Apple has expanded the configuration options for the Mac Studio, introducing a high-capacity memory tier. Users can now order an M5 Ultra-equipped Mac Studio with up to 512GB of Unified Memory, a move aimed at high-end AI development and large-scale professional workflows.
The significant update focuses on the M5 Ultra-powered Mac Studio models. The inclusion of 512GB of memory is specifically designed to cater to the booming AI industry, providing the massive memory pools and high bandwidth required to process multi-billion-parameter neural networks locally.
Pricing and Configurations
The cost of such extreme specifications is substantial. According to Apple's online configurator, a top-tier M5 Ultra chip (36-core CPU and 80-core GPU) with 96GB of RAM starts at $6,800. Upgrading to the maximum 512GB of RAM brings the subtotal to $22,300. If users opt for the maximum 16TB of internal storage, the total price reaches $29,800.
This pricing positions the machine as a specialized tool for corporate research labs, Hollywood production studios, or data scientists, where such costs are often treated as enterprise expenses. For standard professional use, Apple continues to offer more accessible entry points, such as the M5 Max Mac Studio with 36GB RAM and a 512GB SSD for $2,499.
