AMD RDNA 5 reveal delayed: Next-gen GPUs expected no earlier than 2027
If you were hoping for a glimpse of AMD's upcoming RDNA 5 graphics technology in the new year, you might want to manage your expectations. According to tech leaker Kepler_L2, the company is unlikely to lift the veil on its next-generation architecture until at least June 2027, and potentially even later.
Architecture delays and memory market pressures
Speaking on the Anandtech forums, Kepler_L2 suggested that the reveal of RDNA 5 might not happen until Computex 2027, which is scheduled for June 1–4. This implies a wait of at least seven and a half months, though the actual timeline could extend further. This delay is expected to impact both gaming GPUs and workstation-class hardware.
The shifting landscape of the semiconductor industry is a major factor. Driven by the AI boom, skyrocketing memory prices are reportedly forcing manufacturers to adjust their roadmaps. While rumors suggest Nvidia might push its RTX 60 series to 2028, AMD's timeline appears equally constrained, with reports indicating only one Radeon gaming chip is currently on track for a 2027 release.
GDDR7 implementation details
The leak also touched upon memory configurations for upcoming consumer parts. Although driver updates have already hinted at AMD preparing for GDDR7 support, Kepler_L2 claims that 4GB GDDR7 chips will not be used in next-gen consumer products. Instead, the industry might see a shift toward 2GB or 3GB chip configurations to manage costs and density.
In the interim, the current lineup remains the primary focus for buyers. As the market awaits the next leap in architecture, the 12GB Radeon RX 9070 GRE stands out as a notable mid-range option in the current pricing landscape.
