Zeus: God of Oman Preview – Can This Competitive MMORPG Appeal to Everyone?

Zeus: God of Oman (hereafter referred to as Zeus) is a new MMORPG published by Com2uS and developed by Aeverton. The game aims to redefine the competitive landscape of the genre, moving away from the traditional 'top-down' progression models that often alienate casual players. Instead, it proposes a structure where every user can find a way to compete and feel achievement, regardless of their current power level.

A World Built on Mythology and Unreal Engine 5

The game is set in the world of Teia, a realm where gods, demigods, humans, and monsters coexist. The narrative draws heavily from Greek mythology, reinterpreting it through an epic scale powered by Unreal Engine 5. Players assume the role of a 'demigod'—a being that is neither fully divine nor entirely mortal. The journey involves overcoming trials bestowed by the gods to evolve into a vessel worthy of divinity.

Central to this narrative is the NPC Pandora, portrayed with facial scanning and voice acting from actress Park Ji-hyun. She serves as the primary link between the player and the pantheon. Additionally, the messenger god Hermes acts as a guide for players throughout their early journey.

The world of Teia is vast, featuring diverse environments such as the Mediterranean-style landscapes of Thebes and Thessaly, the fertile plains of Zahab, and arid deserts with oases. These locations are not merely aesthetic backdrops but integral parts of the gameplay loop.

Eight Classes and the Philosophy of Competition

Zeus introduces a unique approach to class progression, offering eight distinct classes derived from four base archetypes: Warrior, Rogue, Magi, and Paragon. Gender is fixed for each character to maximize the quality of combat animations specific to that class.

The progression system allows players to undergo a second job change after approximately one hour of gameplay, ensuring early engagement. Notably, customization data such as costumes are preserved during these transitions, allowing players to maintain their character's unique identity while evolving their combat capabilities.

Each base class branches into two specialized roles:

  • Warrior (under the blessing of Apollo) splits into Knight and Berserker.
  • Rogue (inheriting Artemis's agility) becomes Assassin or Ranger.
  • Magi (blessed by Athena) evolves into Elementalist or Oracle.
  • Paragon (guided by Hephaestus) can become the combat-focused Blessed or the economy-specialized Artisan.

The Artisan class is particularly noteworthy, as it is designed specifically for economic activities. These characters utilize unique crafting skills to produce materials and items needed by other players, feeding directly into the game's trading systems.

The Odyssey: Personal and Collective Proof

The core content of Zeus is titled Odyssey, which is divided into two main pillars: Colosseum for individual proof and Acadia War for collective guild achievements.

A significant innovation in the competitive structure is the introduction of AI entities known as Personas. These AI companions mimic a player's appearance and combat style, effectively acting as 'ghosts' or digital clones. This system allows players to compete against their own past performance or against other players' Personas even when opponents are offline. This reduces the pressure of real-time matchmaking while maintaining the tension of competition.

Beyond the Persona system, the game offers direct PvP content including field bosses, inter-server battlegrounds, and large-scale territorial control events such as Siege Wars and Fortress Battles. Rewards for these activities are distributed based on various metrics, including contribution points, final blow deals, and basic participation.

Organic Economy and AI Mode

Zeus features an 'AI Mode' designed to accommodate players who cannot dedicate all their time to the game. This system allows characters to continue hunting and growing automatically according to a set schedule, even when the client is closed or during server maintenance. Players can monitor their character's progress via screen, manage items, adjust skill settings, and designate specific hunting grounds for different times of day.

This convenience feature feeds directly into the game's organic economy. Items and materials obtained through gameplay are traded in a unified 'Inter-Server Exchange' that connects three servers. The Artisan class plays a crucial role here, supplying the exchange with crafted goods. Furthermore, a system called Midas's Vault allows the game to directly purchase specific items from players for diamonds, creating a closed loop of acquisition, crafting, trading, and consumption.

To prevent market flooding, the PC client enforces a single-drive policy, preventing multiple clients from being used simultaneously to create unfair advantages. Personal trades are linked to membership status, while high-tier hero-grade items and materials are excluded from direct trading to maintain balance.

PK Prevention and Server Segregation

The developers have implemented a robust system to prevent malicious behavior known as 'mass killing' or PK (Player Kill). The Murderer System tracks players who engage in excessive violence. Once flagged, these players are registered as murderers, their location is tracked on the world map in real-time, and nearby players receive warnings. Penalties include significantly increased potion costs and the disabling of return functions during PvP.

Crucially, penalties for murder persist even if a player flees to a safe zone like a village, ensuring that malicious behavior cannot be easily escaped.

In terms of monetization, Com2uS has established strict principles: all paid items must be obtainable through in-game currency, and the core areas of growth must be accessible only through gameplay. The developers have explicitly stated they will not sell high-performance equipment or core skills directly via cash packages.

A notable operational policy involves the segregation of server groups. Professional streamers are restricted to two specific server groups out of a total of six, completely separated from the general player base. This separation extends to all services, including the inter-server exchange and matchmaking, ensuring that streamer activity does not negatively impact the economy or gameplay experience for regular users.

Anti-cheat measures include mandatory identity verification when using the exchange and an AI-based 24-hour monitoring system that detects abnormal behaviors. Violations can lead to permanent bans. Additionally, nickname changes will be restricted at launch to prevent account trading and scams.

Future Roadmap and Community Engagement

The development team plans to maintain transparency through developer notes regarding patches, updates, and bug fixes. Regular and irregular live streams will be held to share major issues and gather feedback. The game is scheduled for official service launch on August 26.

Post-launch content includes the opening of the inter-server space Tartarus dungeon within the first month, followed by the addition of new classes and a class change system in the fourth month. Monthly updates will introduce new bosses, dungeon revisions, and real-time betting arenas to keep the gameplay fresh.

Zeus: God of Oman aims to be a competitive MMORPG where everyone can enjoy themselves, offering diverse paths for growth and competition through combat, production, and trade. Whether players choose to compete directly against others or against their own Personas, the game provides multiple avenues for achievement within its rich mythological setting.
