Yatoro: changing a coach is more impactful than replacing a player
Team Spirit carry Ilya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk believes that changing a coach has a significantly greater impact on a Dota 2 team than replacing a single player. Speaking on Team Spirit's YouTube podcast, he stated that the coach largely determines drafts, map movements, and the overall game vision.
According to Mulyarchuk, a coaching change can lead to a radical shift in a team's approach. He noted that while a player's individual skill is vital, the coach handles the strategic elements, including hero selection and positioning. While the core playstyle might remain similar, the strategic execution and game vision can change drastically when a new coach takes over.
Yatoro used the recent roster adjustment in Team Spirit—where Bogdan "Batyuk" joined the team following Maga's departure—as an example. He emphasized that although both players are highly skilled, such a player swap is not as noticeable in terms of team structure as a change in the coaching staff. Currently, he noted that everything is progressing well for the squad.
Team Spirit is competing in the new season with its updated roster. At the recent BLAST Slam VIII, the team reached the grand final but lost to Team Yandex 1:3, securing a second-place finish.
