Xbox Disc-to-Digital Launch Is Now Live for All Users
The Xbox Disc-to-Digital program has officially exited the Xbox Insiders Program. This means the feature is now available to all players on Xbox Series X and Xbox One consoles, enabling them to convert physical disc games into digital licenses for use on their consoles or even on PC. According to an official announcement from Microsoft, the feature supports "most" disc games for these consoles.
However, availability remains dependent on publisher participation. Data tracked by the Xbox Collection Tracker shows that 1592 out of 1861 Xbox games across the Xbox One and Xbox Series ecosystems currently qualify for the program. Major holdouts still include developers like Square Enix, while Sega distributes keys for only some, but not all, of its Xbox games.
This move is a significant win for collectors and physical media enthusiasts, as it facilitates the preservation of game libraries by allowing licenses to be transferred when moving to newer hardware. It is a notable shift for a service that faced significant skepticism during the Xbox One era regarding the future of physical media; what was once a point of contention has become a tool for supporting it.
To verify the status of specific titles, players can consult the community-run Xbox Collection Tracker. The tracker provides up-to-date information on Disc-to-Digital compatibility, Xbox Play Anywhere support (which provides a free PC copy), and whether a game has been delisted from digital storefronts.
