World of Warcraft: Forever Class Deep Dives: Mage and Shaman
Blizzard Entertainment has shared new insights into how the Mage and Shaman classes will evolve in the upcoming World of Warcraft: Forever. The developers are focusing on updating core tools and playstyles to make them more responsive while preserving the essence of each class.
For Mages, the updates aim to make each spell school feel more active in moment-to-moment combat. Arcane gains new ways to empower follow-up casts, Fire continues to reward critical strikes, and Frost maintains its control-focused identity while gaining new interactions with other talent trees.

Key ability and talent changes include:

- Comprehension — a new Mage-specific minor tradeskill that allows players to read and decipher scrolls dropped by creatures in the world.
- Frostfire Bolt — a new spell learned at level 40. It functions as both a Fire and Frost spell, dealing high upfront damage and applying a slow debuff.
- Arcane Blast — a complete redesign of the classic spell. It now applies a stacking buff (up to 4 times) that increases the damage of subsequent Mage spells, encouraging diverse spell rotations over repetitive casting.
- Ignite — this talent now provides a unique debuff per Mage caster rather than a shared raid-wide effect, addressing issues with threat and damage attribution.

In the Fire specialization, the new Heating Up talent allows players to reduce the cast time of Pyroblast down to 1.5 seconds by stacking critical hits from various spells.

Shamans will see improvements focused on combat responsiveness. The update introduces longer-lasting weapon imbues and totems, faster totem deployment, and new utility tools like Totemic Recall and Totemic Projection. These changes are intended to reduce repetitive setup while keeping elemental utility and placement central to the gameplay.

The talent system in World of Warcraft: Forever is also being updated: talents become available at level 10, and a new 16-point milestone has been added alongside the existing 11, 21, and 31-point milestones. Additionally, Dual Specialization will become available at level 40. Note that all abilities and talents are subject to further changes during the beta test phase.
