WE's 'Karis' Kim Hong-jo aims for Worlds via LPL Split 3

WE mid laner Caris (Kim Hong-jo) has set his sights on the League of Legends World Championship after securing a playoff berth in the LPL Split 3.

Previously regarded as a top mid laner prospect in the LCK, Kim struggled to find consistent success while playing for Hanwha Life Esports. His trajectory changed after moving to the LPL, where he emerged as the primary star for WE. The team finished Split 3 with a 7-7 record, earning a ticket to the playoffs.

In the tournament bracket, WE defeated Zhongqing Gaming 3-1 before falling 1-3 to Bilibili Gaming in the upper bracket second round. The team is now competing in the lower bracket second round for another chance to advance.

Speaking at the Xi'an series, Kim noted that while his in-game communication is fully functional, his daily conversational Chinese remains limited to 20-30%. He expressed confidence in his synergy with rookie About (Moon Hyeong-seok), stating that he actively shares strategic insights to help his younger teammate integrate into the team's system.

Despite the physical demands of frequent travel, Kim remains focused on winning Split 3. He emphasized that WE has accumulated sufficient Championship Points to qualify for the World Championship playoffs, and he is committed to reaching the highest possible level with the organization.
