Wardogs leads Newzoo's September PC revenue charts

The September revenue charts from Newzoo reveal an unexpected leader on PC: the first-person shooter Wardogs from Bulkhead has claimed the number one spot, outperforming EA Sports FC 27. Remarkably, the title, which is currently in Early Access, also reached the top 11 in monthly active users (MAU) on PC within just three weeks of its release.

In addition to leading PC revenue, Wardogs entered the year-to-date top 20 games spend chart at number 15. On consoles, however, sports titles remain dominant, with EA Sports FC 27 and NBA 2K27 holding the top two positions. Meanwhile, Marvel's Wolverine secured fourth place in console revenue, marking its highest monthly dollar sales for a Sony-published title since Helldivers 2.

Several other new releases made significant impacts. Halloween: The Game and The Blood of the Dawnwalker both broke into the top 10 for revenue across both PC and consoles. Other notable performers include DressMaker, which surged from 4,698th to 20th place following its full launch on September 21, and Remedy's Control Resonant, which became the studio's fastest-selling title, surpassing one million units in its debut month.

According to Newzoo market analyst Mert Şahin, September's rankings reflect a market rushing to release major titles ahead of the arrival of GTA 6. Şahin suggests that the success of mid-priced hits like Wardogs demonstrates that games do not necessarily need a full premium price tag to compete effectively. However, he notes that long-term engagement is largely driven by established titles through seasonal updates, discounts, and subscription additions.
