VCT 2027 Open Qualifiers Set for November Across 16 Regions
Riot Games has officially unveiled the structural and financial framework for the VCT 2027 season, confirming that Open Qualifiers will commence across 16 regions in November. The announcement details a revised pathway for non-partner teams to secure spots in major events like Kickoff, Cups, Masters, and Champions, alongside significant updates to player safety and roster stability rules.
The competitive landscape is set to expand significantly with the introduction of Open Qualifiers designed to integrate regional talent into the global circuit. Starting in November, these qualifiers will provide a direct route for open teams to qualify for the upcoming season's major tournaments. The format varies by region: VCT Americas, VCT EMEA, and VCT Pacific will each host Kickoff events featuring 12 participants. In these specific regions, eight spots are reserved for partner organizations, leaving four open slots to be filled through the qualifiers. The remaining region, VCT CN (China), operates under its own structure.

The scope of the Open Qualifiers is vast, covering a total of 16 distinct regions. These include North America, Latin America North and South, Brazil, Europe, Türkiye, MENA, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Oceania, and China. Riot Games has noted that the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and other Southeast Asian nations will compete in a combined qualifier to streamline the process. Furthermore, the organization retains the flexibility to organize multiple qualifiers within certain regions, offering teams additional opportunities to earn their path to the top tier.

Significant emphasis has been placed on roster integrity and regional representation. To maintain competitive balance, most regions will enforce a rule requiring at least three of the five players on a roster to be from the territory in which the team competes. Additionally, teams can retain their accumulated competitive progress throughout the season provided they keep at least three players from their original lineup, encouraging stability over constant roster churn.

Financial incentives are also being restructured to support non-partner organizations. Riot Games has introduced a fixed qualification payment system where teams receive USD rewards based on the stage reached: $100,000 for qualifying for Kickoff or Cups, $200,000 for Masters events, and $400,000 for reaching Champions. The maximum potential payout for a non-partner team is capped at $1,100,000, assuming they qualify for Kickoff, two Cups, two Masters events, and the Champions tournament. These payments are separate from standard prize pools, ensuring open teams receive guaranteed compensation for their performance.

Security measures have been tightened to protect the integrity of the competitive scene. Head of VALORANT Esports, Leo Faria, confirmed that identity verification will be implemented during the Open Qualifiers. As players advance through the tournament stages, they will be required to verify their identity with official documents. Riot treats participants as specific individuals rather than just account holders, utilizing kernel-level anti-cheat measures. Players caught using cheats face not only hardware and account bans but also prolonged prohibitions from participating in VCT events.

The season's timeline is beginning to take shape. The free agency period is scheduled to open on November 2, following the conclusion of VALORANT Champions 2026 in Shanghai. Regional Kickoff tournaments are set to follow in January 2027, with the first international Masters event taking place in February. While the complete calendar and specific eligibility requirements for each regional qualifier will be announced later through official channels, the foundation for a more inclusive and secure VCT 2027 season is now firmly laid.
