Valor Mortis priced at $40 due to stacked autumn release window
The developers of Valor Mortis have announced the game's price point. The title will cost $40 (€40), a price notably lower than many other games launching during the same period. This decision is a strategic response to the highly competitive autumn release season.
One More Level, the studio behind Ghostrunner, is set to release its ambitious first-person Soulslike on October 13. The team explained that choosing this price point was a deliberate move. While they are confident in the game's quality, they recognize that players' time and money are at a premium during this busy time of year.
The developers stated that Valor Mortis features a 20-hour story that offers the fidelity and playtime of a full-priced title. However, the upcoming autumn is heavily crowded. October alone sees the release of major titles like Gears of War: E-Day, Ace Combat 8, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, Final Fantasy Resonance, and Phantom Blade Zero. The game's release was previously pushed from September 24 to October to avoid competing directly with Control Resonant.
Blake Rochkind, head of publisher Lyrical Games, told The Game Business that the goal was to avoid sending the wrong message about the game's value. He noted that launching a new IP during one of the busiest seasons in industry history is a significant challenge. Rochkind emphasized that the company wants Valor Mortis to be an accessible choice that players can pick up alongside other major hits.
A Deluxe Edition will also be available for $60 / €60. This version includes the base game, a pack of weapon skins, and a major story DLC scheduled for 2027. The developers have also promised free updates in the months following the launch.
Valor Mortis is coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It will also be available on day one via Game Pass for PC and Xbox.
