Tokyo Game Show 2026 Preview: Nexon Games and Indie Lineup Announced
Tokyo Game Show 2026 is set to open its doors from September 17 to 21 at Makuhari Messe, marking the event's 30th anniversary and coinciding with Japan's Silver Week holiday. This convergence promises a record-breaking attendance, drawing major publishers from Japan, Korea, and around the globe to present an extensive lineup of new titles and updates.
Nexon Games is highlighting Paradollia, a subculture title previously known as 'Project RX'. Set in the world of 'Anima', players will manage a restoration center and live with magical girls called 'Meits' to solve local issues. The game, which has shared concept art for characters like Ohana and Shami, will officially reveal its gameplay for the first time at TGS 2026 alongside Astra Eo Ratio. Developed by Dinamy One with NCSoft publishing, Astra Eo Ratio features a turn-based combat system in a magical version of Tokyo set in 1889.
Netmarble continues its strong presence with titles based on popular anime and webtoon IPs. The lineup includes the collection RPG Shangri-La Frontier: Season of Strongest Seven, the new IP-based title Solo Leveling: Karma, and the subculture-focused Pearl in Blue. Pearl in Blue stands out as a love comedy set in a modern city, featuring 3D action with cartoon rendering.
Smilegate returns with Mirashi and the new title Dead Account: Two Blue Flames. The latter is a team roguelike RPG where players take on the role of Enishiro Sogi at Miden Academy to defeat ghost accounts created from deceased social media profiles. Additionally, Marange Software will showcase KingsRaid Reverse, a rebooted version of the IP following its acquisition after the original developer's bankruptcy.

Japanese publishers are also preparing major announcements. PlayStation (SIE) has already teased its PS5 lineup, including Metro 2039, Daba, and the sequel to Maneater. Capcom will present new DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds and Dragon's Dogma 2, as well as Mega Man: Dual Overdrive. Sega is launching the classic IP Crazy Taxi: World Tour with online multiplayer and will showcase Yakuza: Stranger of Heaven.
Square Enix has confirmed the release date for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as April 8, offering a final chance to experience the game's conclusion at TGS. They will also debut Final Fantasy Resonance, a console remake of the mobile title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius featuring HD-2D graphics and turn-based combat.
Konami is set to unveil new entries in its franchises, including Castlevania: Belmont's Curse and Silent Hill Downfall, alongside new IPs like Lev. Noir. Fate/Extra Record will also make an appearance despite recent development challenges.

The Indie Zone features the 'Selected Indie 80' program, which has curated 80 titles for free exhibition and presentation at the 'Sense of Wonder Night 2026'. Notable Korean indie selections include Sister Driving School, Interscape, and Niendom Op. Zero. The event will also feature a booth connecting with Bit Summit, along with publishers like Shueisha Games and Gravity Game Arise.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, TGS 2026 has extended the event to five days. A new 'Family Game Park' will be expanded, featuring interactive experiences for children and parents, including character photo zones and development job simulations. The e-sports section will host live tournaments in fighting games, FPS, and battle royale genres, culminating in a special Street Fighter 6 event on the main stage.
The event will also feature a 'TGS 30th Anniversary History Wall' showcasing console evolution and technology innovations over the past three decades. Detailed schedules and exhibitor information will be released gradually via the official TGS website, with an online program and live streaming available for global audiences.
