WireView Pro II Readers' Test: Participants for Thermal Grizzly Test Announced

The Hardwareluxx editorial team, in collaboration with Thermal Grizzly, has finalized the selection of participants for their latest readers' test. Three community members will receive one of three WireView Pro II variants to test alongside their own graphics cards, providing real-world insights into the device's monitoring capabilities.

Understanding the WireView Pro II

The WireView Pro II is a monitoring module designed to sit between the power supply cable and the graphics card, specifically targeting the 12V-2x6 connector. Its primary function is to measure current on each individual pin of the connector. This granular data allows users to detect potential contact issues or irregularities in power distribution early, potentially preventing damage to the GPU or the connector itself.

The device features a 320 x 170 pixel TFT display that shows voltage, power, and temperature readings. It utilizes shunt measurement for current and includes two external 10K NTC sensors, allowing for up to four temperature channels. While the device operates without dedicated software, a USB-C port is available for firmware updates and PC connectivity.

Variants and Compatibility Nuances

To accommodate various hardware layouts, Thermal Grizzly offers three distinct versions:

  • Normal (N) and Reversed (R): These differ in the positioning of the sensor pins relative to the power contacts. Compatibility depends on the specific PCB layout of the graphics card.
  • Wired: This version features a fixed 40-cm cable with cable combs. It is the most versatile option, compatible with all 12V-2x6 cards, including NVIDIA Founders Edition models, as it does not mount directly onto the GPU connector.

Users should be cautious when choosing between the Normal and Reversed versions. Thermal Grizzly's compatibility list indicates that certain models—particularly those from ASUS or Gigabyte with custom PCBs—may only be compatible with one of these two specific orientations. The Wired version avoids these orientation issues but requires sufficient case space for the cable.

Test Schedule and Participants

The selected testers are community members Sir Demencia, minimii, and blgblade. They will have four weeks to conduct their testing and publish detailed experience reports on the Hardwareluxx forums. The results are expected to provide valuable data on the stability and monitoring accuracy of the 12V-2x6 power standard.
