The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered: Path Tracing & DLSS 4.5
Years after its initial release, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to receive significant technological boosts. NVIDIA and CD PROJEKT RED have announced a major update that officially renames the title to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. The headline feature is the implementation of Path Tracing, which elevates the game's visual fidelity to a new level of lighting realism, alongside full support for the DLSS 4.5 suite.
A New Standard in Lighting: From Ray Tracing to Path Tracing
While the previous Next-Gen Update utilized a hybrid DirectX 11/DirectX 12 renderer to introduce NVIDIA RTX Global Illumination and ray-traced shadows, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered moves exclusively to DirectX 12. This shift optimizes performance and enables the integration of more advanced rendering technologies.

The core distinction in this update is the transition from standard Ray Tracing to full Path Tracing. While traditional ray tracing focuses on specific elements like reflections or shadows, Path Tracing unifies all aspects of lighting and rendering into a single system. By simulating the behavior of light through multiple bounces, the technology ensures that light inherits the color of the surfaces it strikes. This results in a more cohesive and immersive image, particularly in complex environments where ambient and bounced lighting are crucial for realism.
The NVIDIA Tech Stack: DLSS 4.5 and Ray Reconstruction
Beyond the lighting overhaul, the game now supports the complete DLSS 4.5 suite. A vital component of this is Ray Reconstruction, which leverages AI to enhance ray-traced imagery, reducing noise and sharpening details. This technology is essential for maintaining visual clarity when running the demanding Path Tracing mode.

For players seeking a balance between high fidelity and high frame rates, DLSS Super Resolution remains a key option. Together, these technologies allow The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered to showcase the full potential of modern GeForce RTX GPUs, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in an open-world RPG.
Future Roadmap and Other Releases
The partnership between NVIDIA and CD PROJEKT RED extends into the future, as all current graphical enhancements will also be applied to the upcoming expansion, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past, scheduled for a 2027 release.
