Kim 'Soulkey' Min-chul Claims 5th ASL Title, Eyes 10th Career Victory
Kim 'Soulkey' Min-chul has been crowned the champion of Google Play ASL Season 22 after defeating Rush (Yoo Young-jin) in a hard-fought 4-3 series. This victory marks his fifth ASL title, and the veteran player has already announced his next objectives: breaking consecutive win records and reaching a total of 10 career titles.
The grand finals took place on October 17 at the Lotte World Ice Rink in Seoul. Kim 'Soulkey' Min-chul expressed that competing in an outdoor venue provided significant motivation. Despite a brief moment of thinking the series was over after winning the 5th set on Aeolus, a loss in the 6th set forced him to refocus immediately to secure the championship.
Regarding the gameplay, Kim 'Soulkey' Min-chul noted that he had anticipated Rush's three Starport strategy in the 5th set and had prepared accordingly. He attributed his consistent performance to his mental resilience, stating that even after a loss, he remains focused on the next match without significant psychological impact.
The road to this victory was fueled by past setbacks. Kim 'Soulkey' Min-chul admitted that early exits in the previous two seasons were a blow to his pride, which ultimately motivated his intense preparation for this run. He also mentioned that while his passion for StarCraft had briefly waned after winning four consecutive titles, it has now fully returned.
Looking ahead, Kim 'Soulkey' Min-chul is aiming for new milestones. He intends to secure a fifth consecutive title and eventually reach 10 total ASL victories. He identified Park 'Soma' Sang-hyun as his primary rival, expressing hope that their ongoing competition will continue to drive the scene forward.
