Silent Hill: Townfall update adds new difficulty mode and DLSS Ray Reconstruction
Konami continues to expand the Silent Hill franchise through various developer partnerships. The latest update for the first-person survival horror Silent Hill: Townfall, patch 1.6.0, brings much-requested quality-of-life improvements and a new way to tailor the gameplay experience.
The centerpiece of this update is a new difficulty setting positioned between Normal and Nightmare. Players can now choose from four distinct modes: Story, designed for narrative immersion without heavy punishment; Normal, offering a balanced experience where combat is viable; Hard, which emphasizes stealth and careful resource management; and Nightmare, the most punishing challenge for those seeking a true survival test.
The addition of the Hard mode follows a series of adjustments to the game's pacing. After launch, Screen Burn Interactive had previously reduced the overall difficulty due to several punishing encounters. This move, while intended to make the game more accessible, led some players to find the experience too easy, necessitating this new middle ground.
PC-Exclusive Technical Features
Alongside the gameplay changes, patch 1.6.0 introduces DLSS Ray Reconstruction for PC users with compatible hardware. This NVIDIA technology utilizes AI to enhance the quality of ray-traced effects, potentially providing cleaner reflections and improved lighting stability when using DLSS upscaling.
