Ruler: Want revenge on DK after EWC snowball

Gen.G's "Ruler" Park Jae-hyuk expressed a strong desire for revenge after his team advanced to the 2026 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) final. The bottom laner reflected on the team's difficult season, highlighting a specific loss to Dplus KIA at the Esports World Cup (EWC) that he believes derailed their momentum.

Gen.G secured a 3-1 victory over Hanwha Life Esports in the third round of the LCK playoffs upper bracket on September 5 at the Chizik LoL Park in Jonggak. This win qualifies them for the 2026 LCK Grand Final, marking a significant step in their championship campaign.

In a post-match interview, "Ruler" expressed satisfaction with the team's performance against Hanwha Life. He noted that the game plan and team fights unfolded exactly as intended, praising the smooth communication among the players during the operational phases of the match.

When asked about the overall journey of the season, the player acknowledged that it was one of the most challenging periods in recent years. "The process itself was very difficult," he admitted. However, he emphasized that enduring those hardships together allowed the team to become stronger and more united. Despite the struggles, he stated that the experience ultimately left them with positive memories.

"Ruler" identified two moments as the most critical setbacks of the season: the LCK Roadshow match at the House of Gen.G and the loss to Dplus KIA at the EWC. He described the Roadshow match as particularly scary and noted that the snowball effect began with the EWC defeat. Although the team provided feedback after losing to Dplus KIA, the issues did not resolve easily in subsequent LCK matches, and the negative momentum carried over into the Roadshow, where they struggled.

However, Gen.G managed to overcome these trials and regained their powerful fighting ability in the match against Hanwha Life. "Ruler" analyzed that during today's game, he felt their team was handling the laning phase better than their opponents. This advantage allowed them to focus more easily on the team fight structures, leading to a more controlled performance.

Addressing the bottom duo's synergy, which was previously cited as a weakness, he explained that their form has been continuously improving. While there were moments when their coordination did not align perfectly, he stated that their current chemistry is in a very good state.

Looking ahead to the Grand Final, "Ruler" predicted that they would face either T1 or Dplus KIA. He mentioned that he does not have a specific preference for an opponent but expects one of these two teams to advance. He noted that Dplus KIA has overcome a recent crisis and feels even stronger, and since they have suffered many losses this year, he has a strong desire for revenge. He also anticipated that T1 would arrive at the final having learned and improved from their loss to Hanwha Life.

Concluding the interview, "Ruler" emphasized that only the Grand Final remains. He acknowledged the historical trend where teams that advance directly to the final often fail to win the championship. Determined to break this pattern, he pledged to prepare thoroughly and lift the trophy, stating, "We will definitely win."
