Rookie: "Hanwha Life Esports played like an LPL team"
By defeating Hanwha Life Esports, IG secured a 2-1 record. Returning to the Worlds main stage after a long hiatus, IG faced a challenging draw, starting against Gen.G before meeting Hanwha Life Esports. Despite the difficult path, they proved their strength by taking down the LCK side.
Familiarity in a Tough Draw
The path to victory was not easy for Song "Rookie" Eui-jin. After facing Gen.G in the opening match and securing a subsequent win, IG found themselves matched against Hanwha Life Esports at a 1-1 tie. While the draw was far from ideal, Rookie noted that outcomes at Worlds are often heavily influenced by environmental factors and immediate form.
"We came in believing that if our condition was good, we could definitely win," Rookie explained. In analyzing the matchup, he pointed out that Hanwha Life Esports became significantly more aggressive following the addition of Kanavi. Interestingly, he noted that their playstyle carried an "LPL-like feel," making the matchup feel familiar to the IG roster and helping them navigate the series successfully.
Overcoming the Stage Nerves
Competing in the United States presented a unique challenge for the veteran midlaner. Despite his extensive experience, Rookie admitted to feeling nervous about playing at Worlds in the US for the first time in a long while. However, he expressed confidence that today's victory has helped him overcome that tension, allowing him to focus on the upcoming matches.
Closing the interview, Rookie asked for continued support for IG as they work to maintain their momentum. He expressed hope that their entertaining style of play would resonate with Korean fans, promising that the team will continue to strive for high-level performances to repay their supporters.
