Report: Crossfire dev That's No Moon lays off 14 staff
That's No Moon, the developer of the in-development project Crossfire, has reportedly laid off 14 staff members. The report is based on multiple LinkedIn posts by employees at the studio, which started on Friday and have increased in number since.
Confirmed Facts
The layoffs affected several roles: an associate environment artist, a procedural technical artist, and a senior environment concept artist. The latter specified that they were "one of the fourteen affected" by the reported layoffs at the company—a number that was echoed by a producer on the team.
A producer expressed gratitude to former colleagues, describing them as some of the most talented, driven, and persistent people they had worked with. They noted learning a lot and growing within the studio while working on projects they genuinely cared about.
The project Crossfire was revealed in June of this year with Smilegate and Tencent subsidiary Team K1 acting as publishers.
Studio History and Context
That's No Moon was founded in mid-2021 by former Infinity Ward and Naughty Dog employees, kicking off operations with a $100 million investment from publisher Smilegate.
In recent years, Smilegate has undergone restructuring: it shut down its Barcelona studio in early 2024. Then, at the end of the same year, the company announced a money investment agreement into becoming a partner in Absurd Ventures, the transmedia studio from Rockstar alum Dan Houser.
