Radeon GPU prices may rise as AMD reportedly bumps GDDR6 costs
The cost of Radeon graphics cards may be headed for another climb. According to reports from Board Channels, AMD has allegedly increased the price of GDDR6 memory modules for its board partners by 10%. This hike, reportedly effective as of October 1, could lead to further price increases for consumer GPUs.
Impact on the RX 9000 Series
The Radeon RX 9000 series is expected to be the most affected by this change, as production for older generations has largely wound down. This reported increase is the latest in a series of price hikes driven by the ongoing memory crisis, which continues to impact component costs across the industry.
Retail price adjustments may take some time to reach consumers, but current market trends show significant inflation is already underway. For instance, at the UK retailer Scan, the Radeon RX 9060 XT (16GB) is currently priced at £499.99, an increase of £185 over its original MSRP. Similarly, the Radeon RX 9070 XT is retailing for £759.99, which is £190 above its initial launch price.
While these price hikes are still categorized as rumors, the existing upward trend in component costs suggests that the mid-range market will feel the impact soon. At present, the Radeon RX 9070 GRE remains a notable option in the mid-range segment given current market pricing.
