Phantom Blade Zero: Gameplay Details and Release Date

Developer S-GAME has confirmed that the action RPG Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for release on October 29, 2026, for PC and PS5. During a recent showcase in Beijing, the studio provided a closer look at the gameplay, highlighting a unique blend of high-speed combat and exploration within its signature "Kung Fu-punk" setting.

The combat system revolves around a core resource called "Sha-Chi," which players use for both offensive strikes and defensive maneuvers. The gameplay emphasizes precision: blocking consumes Sha-Chi, while a perfectly timed parry allows the player to perform a "Ghoststep," instantly repositioning them behind the enemy. While blue-lit attacks can be parried, red-lit attacks must be dodged using a standard evasion.

Weapon variety is a central pillar of the experience. Beyond the primary blade, players can utilize "Phantom Edge" secondary weapons—such as axes or chain sickles—obtained by defeating specific bosses. These weapons significantly alter the combat flow, enabling mechanics like bleeding status effects, long-range strikes, or using chains to navigate the environment. Switching weapons also serves as a method to replenish Sha-Chi.

Exploration is equally vital to the game's structure. Rather than a traditional open world, Phantom Blade Zero features compact, interconnected zones filled with hidden treasures and side quests. Game Director Liang Qiwei described the game's design as a "pyramid": the foundation consists of RPG elements and exploration, supporting intricate level design, which ultimately leads to the peak—the high-speed combat system.

The game also features a boss encounter mechanic where, if defeated during a second phase, players can restart the fight from the beginning of the first phase, allowing for focused practice on specific combat patterns.
